THE TRUST BUILDING STAGE
During The Trust Building Stage residents continue building relationships with staff and peers. Trust is foundational in forming healthy relationships and relationships are essential to the healing process.
THE COMPETENCE STAGE
While progressing through The Competence Stage residents gain many of the specific competencies (skills plus confidence in ones abilities) needed for success in life. These include, but are not limited to, social and relationship skills, academic skills, anger management skills, conflict resolution skills, independent living skills and moral reasoning skills.
THE RESPONSIBILITY STAGE
During The Responsibility Stage youth are expected to demonstrate that they have "internalized" (made a part of themselves) what they have learned in the program thus far. They are expected to take responsibility for their thoughts, feelings and actions. They are expected to develop a set of future goals and begin pursuing them in an environment of reduced supervision.
THE COMMITMENT & TRANSITION STAGE
In the last stage of the program, The Commitment & Transitions Stage, residents are encouraged to make a commitment to their future goals and begin the process of transition. At the end of this stage youth transition out of the Hope Hill program. Most of them either return to their homes or go into foster care or an independent living program.
