Hope Hill Children's Home is now offering an Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program under the direction of Scott Ross a Licensed Professional Certified Counselor and Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor.
The program is a 12 step approach to holistic healing of the body, mind and spirit. Treatment focuses on the entire individual and not just one portion. We believe that if the entire body is not the focus then upon leaving the youth is not equipped to deal with the problems of life.
One of the four cottages on campus is dedicated to the Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program. The cottage is locked secure and has a capacity of 12 residents.
The program consists of four groups. Each group is designed to address either a mental health diagnosis or a substance abuse diagnosis.
The program will utilize individual and group counseling as well as equine assisted therapy to enable our residents to have a greater chance at recovery from problems that a co-occurring diagnosis can cause.
The groups provided in the program will deal with issues of addiction, mental health, recovery and how to live without the use of substances.
It is expected that through providing this treatment we will give residents a better chance at a life after discharge.
A major obstacle that our youth face upon discharge is returning to an atmosphere where they were unsuccessful in the past. By giving them the tools that they need to lessen the chance of abuse or addiction, they can live a more productive life, thereby changing the lives of others in the future.
Group Summaries
* Alcohol and Drug recovery Group:
Hope Hill is a chartered Alcoholics Anonymous center specifically for teens. We follow the 12 step program to help move youth into a plan for recovery.
* How to Handle Life With Out Substances:
Sessions will focus on identifying triggers to substance abuse such as personal feelings/ emotions, environment, stress, etc. Once these triggers are identified, residents can then begin identifying how to avoid tempting situations and peer pressure, develop a support system and find new interests to help live life without alcohol or drugs.
* Alcohol and Drug Education:
All residents of Hope Hill will participate in these sessions to help educate about the effects of alcohol and drugs. Sessions will also explore what addiction is, who can become addicted and how to identify an addict.
* Alcohol and Drug Mental Health Group:
Sessions look into the effects of alcohol and drug abuse on the body as well as their effects on a mental health diagnosis. In addition sessions will identify how mental health and addiction affect self worth and an individual's belief system.
* Equine Assisted Counseling - Individual Addictions Curriculum:
The Equine component of the Alcohol and Drug Treatment program is designed to identify problem solving skills, communication styles and relationship patterns to increase self awareness of how thinking and behaviors can positively or negatively effect daily function specifically with substance abuse.
Specific activities are used to mirror real life situations and conflict to encourage evaluation of problem solving skills to aid in positive decision making.
Family Involvement
We believe that for youth in the Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program to have a better opportunity for success in recovery, the entire family needs to be involved. It is important for the family to realize that addiction does not affect only the user but rather everyone in the family. We encourage families to take part in our Family Education groups separate from the youth in care.
In addition, when appropriate we ask families to participate in sessions through our Equine Assisted Counseling program.
If the youth is unable to return to their birth family, it is encouraged that the foster family they transition to take part in the family sessions as well.
